Radiozurnal ČRo 1has nightly specialist programs in different musical genres and also general pop music broadcasts with strong bias against bubblegum pop and towards new music and Czech performers. Unfortunately their programming covering news and current affairs from a youth-oriented perspective has been considerably reduced since the station’s inception. Radiozurnal ČRo 1has gradually increased the amount of talkback content as well in its programming that is common for other Czech radio stations. The reason for this is that talkback provides an inexpensive and popular source of program content that is very important for radio station, and also provides the appearance of listener interactivity and involvement. And, like in case of other former ‘all music’ radio stations, Radiozurnal ČRo 1 has had to respond to the advent of music file-sharing, digital music players and other digital music innovations, which have reduced drastically radio audience as nowadays they can access new music and/or their favorite music by other means. Radiozurnal ČRo 1 remains “free and easy” radio station, far more open to new music than any of the commercial stations. However, although this radio station has autonomy the degree of programming structure is quite high and music played on air is part of a carefully structured play-list, posted in the studio, to which presenters are must confirm.
