government confiscated broadcasting equipment. However public responded with an
enthusiasm and 30.000 people signed the document against confiscation. That’s
why later in February 1991 the broadcasting equipment was returned and RADIO 1
got its current name. Radio 1 became the first privately owned independent

- ČRo 1
- Radiožurnál
Radiozurnal ČRo 1has nightly specialist programs in
different musical genres and also general pop music broadcasts with strong bias
against bubblegum pop and towards new music and Czech performers. Unfortunately
their programming covering news and current affairs from a youth-oriented
perspective has been considerably reduced since the station’s inception.
Radiozurnal ČRo 1has gradually increased the amount of talkback content
as well in its programming that is common for other Czech radio stations. The
reason for this is that talkback provides an inexpensive and popular source of
program content that is very important for radio station, and also provides the
appearance of listener interactivity and involvement. And, like in case of other
former ‘all music’ radio stations, Radiozurnal ČRo 1 has had to respond
to the advent of music file-sharing, digital music players and other digital
music innovations, which have reduced drastically radio audience as nowadays
they can access new music and/or their favorite music by other means. Radiozurnal
ČRo 1 remains “free and easy” radio station, far more open to
new music than any of the commercial stations. However, although this radio
station has autonomy the degree of programming structure is quite high and
music played on air is part of a carefully structured play-list, posted in the
studio, to which presenters are must confirm.
- Radio
Expres

two years ago focusing on international pop of good quality. At the beginning

– Mediaprojekt. They published research results showing zero popularity for
Radio Expres among the radio listeners. But, director of Radio Expres
didn’t give up and based on these results he decided to change the program.
Employees from Radio Expes were against the management and asked listeners for
their support. They beseeched on the air “Proof that you are not zeros and
support us!” They got many answers from people by e-mails, and phone calls,
SMS messages to the station. Thus appeared the famous slogan of Radio Expres -
“I’m a zero, I listen to Radio Expres,” that later served as the
basis for an advertising campaign. It
was prepared in cooperation with the Leo Burnett agency and employed a three-fold
approach. First, the Radio Expres asked singers, friends and other celebrities
to support with the recorded slogan. Then they distributed posters showing an
“abandoned” or discarded radio and the slogan, “Give your radio
another chance”. And at last in the middle of April they organized a
“concert for all good zeroes” on Old Town Square that collected an
audience of about 10,000 people. Then posters and billboards with the slogan
appeared in Prague
“Radio Expres, precisely what you want to listen to.” After such campaign
Expres radio has become one of the most dynamic stations on the market,

as competitors, not as outsiders.
