Czech Republic: statistics and numbers in the XXI century

Summary: with the intention to give you a more general and larger picture about Czech Republic we will analyse statistics from Eurostat in the following categories: demography; tourism trends; unemployment; education and economy.

Czech Republic is a country of 10 millions of people, very similar to Portugal or Belgium. The births are approximately of 102.2 although the death is in a bigger number 107.9, therefore, like in many other countries of the EU the populations is growing older. However the population keeps growing in number by the sustained migration, whish represents 4.8 per 1000 population in 2005, with a relevant tend to increase. Czech Republic received in 2005, 60.3(1000) immigrants, while only 24.1(1000) left the country. The most significant foreign communities in the Czech Republic are, in first place Ukraine with 125 407, secondly Slovakia represented in 69 472, after Viet Nam being represented by 53 432 people. In a smaller number the Russian and Polish community are represents by 23 518 and 20 793 respectively.
Prague is not the most visited city in the Europe but its tourism have been growing and consequently improving. Tourism creates added value and employment in the receiving countries and contributes to a better knowledge or image of the country. Most tourists in EU are from the EU: 88%. Germans, British and Holands are the top outbound tourist in Czech Republic and in Europe. After the entry in the EU the tourism in Czech Republic increased approximately 10% and was already generating 3 726 million euros in 2005. Hotels in Prague play bigggest role in country economy. Concerning unemployment in 2006 Czech Republic, shows different results in the different areas (NUTS2): Prague has a rate of 2.8%, while Moravskoslezsko (Moravian-Silesian) between 8% and 12% and Severozápad (northwest) 12.8%, the rest of the regions have a rate between 4% and 8%. Most of the country has a rate between 4% and 8% although the contrasts are notorious, while Prague has a low rate the northwest has a very high rate. The rate of unemployment, have decreased since 2002 whish was 7.3 to 2006 whish was 7.1.
In the EU the Czech Republic is one of the best rated countries regarding education. While the EU average of students aged 18 years old is about 76.3%, in Czech Republic is about 88.3%, the Czech Republic is also the third country with a bigger number of students at this age.
Czech Republic is a growing country with a prosper economy being an excellent country to live work or study or to travel. Here we will analyse the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a useful indicator of the countries lever of economic activity, when compared to anterior years it is possible to analyse the standards of households. The GDP in the Czech Republic is 75 in 2004, 77 in 2005 and 79 for 2006, comparing to the 100 of EU27, this mean that economic activity is getting closer and closer to the EU average, for a better picture and also curiosity Luxemburg as a GDP of 280 and United Kingdom 118 in 2006. Regarding the Actual Individual Consumption (AIC) whish comprises household final consumption expenditure (goods and services purchased by households directly), as well as the consumption of individual services, notably heath and education services, provided by the government and non-profit organizations. Czech Republic presents an AIC (per capita) of 69 in 2004 and 2005 and 70 in 2006. The highest AIC is again the Luxembourgian one for 173 while in United Kingdom is 131. Czech Republic is far form the average of the European Union meaning the prices are low in this country.
