Eliska Krasnohorska

Eliska Krasnohorska at Charles Square

This monument is dedicated to famous Czech feminist writer. Eliska Krasnohorska wrote literary criticism and lyric poetry. Nevertheless she is usually associated with literature for children and translation works of Pushkin’s and Byron’s masterpieces.

On the monument located in Charles Square we can see a woman holding a magazine or newspaper. Certainly she is. Krasnohorska edited the first Czech women journal! She took and active part in establishment of first girls’ high school in Prague, which aimed to prepares ladies for advanced studies.
