Jan Hus
Jan Hus monument at the Old Town Square (Pomník Jana Husa)
This monument in the heart of the city was built in 1915, on the 500th anniversary of the death of Jan Hus. This gentleman was one of the Czech Hussite reformers, who gave up his life for his beliefs. The massive monument in the center of the Old Town Square consists of two groups of people. A young mother symbolizes rebirth of the nation and the figure of Jan Hus emphases the moral authority.
This memorial was built completely on public donations, probably as significant contribution and influence of Hus in reforming ideas of the past.
