Man hanging out

A statue of man hanging out was created by David Cerny an exceptional sculptor, occasional actor and painter, passionate novice aviator known both in the Czech Republic and abroad. He created it in 1996 and it’s situated in Old Town square (Stare Mesto) at the intersection of Husova and Skorepka streets. This sculpture was so popular that it was exhibited not only in Prague, but also in London, Berlin, Rotterdam and USA - Chicago and Michigan. Sigmund Freud, the famous psychoanalyst born in Freiberg, Moravia, which is now part of the Czech Republic, is depicted in this statue form expressing the human condition related to our need to consciously make the decision to live life or to let go. David Cerny uses the image of Sigmund Freud in this shocking position to communicate his own questions about the status quo. During exhibitions in many places all over the world, public at first was surprised to see a body hanging out from such height and police and fire departments were also confused, however it had a big success everywhere.
