St. George fighting dragon

A granite monolith statue of St. George was made by Joze Plecnik in 1928 and dedicated to the victims of WWI. It is situated in South of the Cathedral of Prague, the third court yard and is a copy of 14th century bronze statue of St. George slaying the dragon. The original statue is located in the Convent of St. George.

Original bronze statue of St. George on the fountain, the patron Saint of many other countries and cities, was created by Georg and Martin of Klausenberg. However later in 1541 it was damaged by fire and Tomas Jaros recast its horse and dragon in 1562. Originally the statue was originally located in front of the St. George Basilica, but during the Theresian reconstruction of 1761 fountain was relocated to the centre of Courtyard III. Josip Plecnik had the Baroque fountain placed at the entrance to the old royal palace in 1928 and replaced it in its former location with a new one of his own design.
