St Lutgard statue
One of the most successful and valuable statues in Charles Bridge is depicting the blind Cistercian nun, St. Lutgard, sculpted by Matthias Brown when he was just 26 years old in 1710 as a commission from Evžen Tyttl, the abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Plasy. Christ appeared in a vision to St. Lutgard - a Flemish saint who saw Christ on the cross and might kiss his wounds. She died in 1246 and her relics were exhumed in the 16th century and sheltered at Ittre. Except a marble statue on the Charles Bridge a painting by Goya was created in her honor.
