St. Nicholas of Tolentino

St. Nicholas of Tolentino statue on Charles Bridge is sculpted by Jan Bedřich Kohl in 1708, and paid for by the Augustinian convent of St. Thomas in Prague. He is depicted standing on a simple base and holding the lilies of purity, and by his legs there is an angel holding a basket of bread. You can see the guiding star to Tolentine on his chest. St. Nicholas of Tolentino is patron saint of the Holy Souls and saints in Purgatory and his feast Day is on September 10th. Behind St. Nicholas of Tolentino statue there is a house with a Madonna, a mangle, and a lantern on its top-floor balcony. If you believe legends then walk quickly as legends say that if the lantern goes out while you pass by the statue, you’ll die within the year.
