Statue of St. Anne

Statue of St. Anne was designed in 1707 by Matěj Václav Jäckel, at the expense of count Rudolf of Lisov, the hetman of the New Town of Prague. The statue depicts St. Anne, who was mother of the Virgin Mary, who is portrayed here as a young girl holding the baby Jesus as the child embraces the globe. St. Anne is patroness of women in labor and miners and a patron saint of Quebec and Brittany. According to Christian tradition Anne and her husband Joachim couldn’t have children but once were visited by an angel who told them that they would conceive a child. For this great news Anne promised to dedicate her child to God’s service. Thus their daughter Mary got the service of the Second Temple when she was just three years old.
