Statue of St. Ivo
St. Ivo is a saint and patron of lawyers and abandoned children and the original of the statue in his honor was made by Matthias Braun in 1711 and paid for by the Law faculty of Charles University. The statue depicts St. Ivo accompanied by an allegory of Justice. Czech law students have tradition of placing a glass of beer in his hand when they complete their final exams. St. Ivo is depicted with a purse in his right hand symbolizing all the money he gave to the poor during his life, and in the other hand with a rolled paper for his charge as a judge. St. Ivo is sometimes represented between a rich man and a poor one. Saint Ives is also the patron saint of Brittany and his feast day is on May 19.
